Here is my Dad. Best Dad ever.
(Bert will have to have his post sometime!)
I still remember as kids thinking that Dad should run for president. Mostly likely there was a presidential election going on at the time. Aaron and I knew that he would win the race cause we didn't know anybody who did not like him.
We were going down the list of things we thought were important characteristics for a president.....we were all of about 7 and 8 years old....honesty was right there on top. To this day, I can't think of once when Dad was not completely honest with us. There were not double standards for us or anyone else he dealt with. There were no grey areas. Something was either right or wrong and he would explain it to us very simply. Biblical explanations were very real. Not just a true story from 2000+ years ago. (and why not, the truth never changes!)
One thing that is clearer to me every day, is how important family was and continues to be for Dad. Most of his decisions in life were based on (1) was it God's will for him, and (2) would it be the best thing for his family. He was not after 'glory and riches' as the world knows them, but understood that apart from one's own personal relationship with Christ, there are few things more important and lasting than relationships. And relationships start with family.
I hope and pray that if the Lord grants us children one day, that He will give us the wisdom, care, and love to be half the parents that our parents were to us.

Amen! I couldn't have worded it better. I constantly marvel at how amazing of a father he was. And he's just as great a grandfather. I often agonize over how come I can't be more like him and Mom as a parent. I can't even think of a handful of things that I would have done differently than they did. As for president I remember another time we were talking about Dad running for president and we decided as much as we thought he would be a great president we weren't going to vote for him because we didn't want him to have to ever be in danger. :) LOL Great times being kids huh?
What a great post about your dad.
A very nice tribute to someone you love.
Now days very few children can write a blog like yours. You are blessed to love and honor both your father and mother with respect and gratitude with much love in returm.
Beautifully put Kryna - so many things we take for granted - thanks for sharing!
I like the post! I should have checked it earlier. In addition to Dad's radical honesty, I was always impressed by his humility. We all always saw all these admirable traits that made him something of an anomaly in today's culture, but Dad never gets at all taken by himself because of what I call the "good watch effect." Dad is so principled in his world and especially life view that he doesn't expect congratulations for being honest etc. any more than he'd be impressed by a watch that gives the correct time. It's just doing what it is supposed to do. Not pat on the back necessary for that! :-) I'm still hoping to be like him someday. adr
Really nice post Kryna...I always say, why wait until the people we love have passed on? tell them NOW what they've meant to you! Way to go!
