Months Later (Part II of UK trip)

Ok, after all this time, I am sitting down to work at the computer and of course thinking of everything that needs to be done. Naturally, I think that I must post on the blog! Anyway. Maybe someday I can be a bit more regular on here. There isn't too much new happening here. So here is a little bit of our trip from months ago.

This pic and the next few were taken at Gerry's Hostel in the Highlands of Scotland. Bert and I love staying at hostels on our trips. They are all different. Because of the internet, we have good idea of how they look/work before we get there, which is great. Most of the time the bunk rooms are shared with about 10 others. There is a communal kitchen and living room/meeting area. There are also usually multiple washrooms and or shower rooms. We have always had pretty good experiences with them and it is a great way to meet new people and get to know the culture a bit better.

Gerry has a great variety of cutlery.
Even a few spices to share.

Toasties are always Bert's favorite.
A view over the sink.
By the dinning table.
The community room.
Gerry always has an awesome fire going.
A view from the bedroom window.

Bert picked up some peat on the Isle of Lewis. This whole bag of wet peat shrunk down to about the size of a box of Nerds after Bert dried it out by nuking in in the microwave.

You can't see it too well, but we pulled the car up on a hill/ramp thing to get a better view or Loch Marie on our way to Aultbea.
(another disclaimer: My spell check says that their are no mistakes. I don't believe it, but I wouldn't know what to fix either.)

Happy Birthday Grandpa!

Happy 84th Birthday to my dear Grandpa Altena!

Grandpa is one of those people with a great sense of humor. He would strike silently. You didn't know what hit, until you would hear his little chuckle. I remember that chuckle well when he sprayed me with the hose while he was washing his car at our house. I was maybe three or four at the time and didn't appreciate the humor in it as much as he did. Now I do! Grandpa, we love you!

LIttle Bits More From Across the 'Pond'

So blogger seems to be having another fit, or it is probably just me. Most likely.
Anyway, these pics are in no order at all. I can't seem to move them around. We saw lots of amazing things on our trip again. We were blessed with great fellowship with friends. We are extremely grateful to the Lord for giving us the opportunities to reunite with friends and to see such beauties in His creation in the process!

One of the Harris Tweed Shops on the Isle of Harris.
Some random house on the Islands.
Some random Sheep on the Islands.

I think I have more....hopefully I will post them soon!

Our Trip to Scotland

Yep we were away again! Yikes, we do travel a bit. It was great though.
Disclaimer: I am a shameless tourist, but this was not our car. Just one we saw on the Isle of Harris.

My Super Cool "New Junk"

These are a couple of finds from this week. I went to a city wide yard sale this morning....spent all of like $8 total. Got cool stuff. This isn't all of it, but we did need it all. I am sure of it.

Bits of Randomness

This is the kind of stuff that makes up life and the kind of stuff that can be easy to forget. So here are just random bits of life for us in Small Town Ontario.

This is Art and Helen our downstairs neighbors. It is great to have such wonderful neighbors. If you can, we would love prayer for Art both for physical and spiritual health. He had pneumonia a few weeks ago and is still struggling very much.

Springs is coming, but flurries still hit every now and then.

Bert's self portraits. He has been thinking it is a great idea to take a photo at breakfast. This is the only one so far that will make to the web...

We had friends over last week and I used them for guinea pigs. We tried manicotti. It was good, but took getting every dish I owned dirty to make. :)

(disclaimer....the hair doesn't usually look like that)

My new favorite mug. Momma gave it to me for Christmas.

My editing desk where I spend oh so much time.....
