Months Later (Part II of UK trip)

Ok, after all this time, I am sitting down to work at the computer and of course thinking of everything that needs to be done. Naturally, I think that I must post on the blog! Anyway. Maybe someday I can be a bit more regular on here. There isn't too much new happening here. So here is a little bit of our trip from months ago.

This pic and the next few were taken at Gerry's Hostel in the Highlands of Scotland. Bert and I love staying at hostels on our trips. They are all different. Because of the internet, we have good idea of how they look/work before we get there, which is great. Most of the time the bunk rooms are shared with about 10 others. There is a communal kitchen and living room/meeting area. There are also usually multiple washrooms and or shower rooms. We have always had pretty good experiences with them and it is a great way to meet new people and get to know the culture a bit better.

Gerry has a great variety of cutlery.
Even a few spices to share.

Toasties are always Bert's favorite.
A view over the sink.
By the dinning table.
The community room.
Gerry always has an awesome fire going.
A view from the bedroom window.

Bert picked up some peat on the Isle of Lewis. This whole bag of wet peat shrunk down to about the size of a box of Nerds after Bert dried it out by nuking in in the microwave.

You can't see it too well, but we pulled the car up on a hill/ramp thing to get a better view or Loch Marie on our way to Aultbea.
(another disclaimer: My spell check says that their are no mistakes. I don't believe it, but I wouldn't know what to fix either.)

I know it should have been "there" and not "their" in the last line, but it will not let me change it just now! Sorry!

Great pictures. Love your car. The hostel doesn't look near as bad as I had pictured in my mind.

What's Bert going to do with the peat?

Hostiles sounds like a great way to meet new friends-but honestly, I'm not sure I would like them for myself.

Hot and dry here like most of the nation is. We lived through the last recorded record in 1934-1936 with out-AC , but did have fans. No running water , so no hoses to water anything, including our big garden. Our windmill was just steps from the garden, so dad hooked up a hose and let the wind pump water on the garden when every the wind decided to blow.
